  4. Dear ms.Swanek,
In my personal opinion i think that phones can cause a lot of trouble, because they are very addictive and can cause problems in school such as being distracted in class, or procrastinating at home texting instead of homework. Phones can also ruin people’s vocabulary by saying u instead of you, omg, lol, and c u l8er.
Phones can also be very helpful in a teen’s life, like helping people to be more social. It can save a lot of time if two people want to go and hang out. Instead of going home finding what time your free then going to school the following day finding out that the other person is not free that day then going back home etc... People, on their free time can text each other a lot can play games and listen to music.
I personally think that phones are a mostly a privilege with a little bit of a necessity especially if you are responsible with your phone and do not use it in class.

  5. I agree with parts of the quote and the article. No matter how talented you are or able to multitask there is no room for rudeness in our society. When someone is talking to you, you should make eye contact and to listen to them. Are they able to multitask and see a job to full completion? Would an employer be pleased with their work? Are they using a cell phone or are they just addicted to it. Using a cell phone is good to keep in touch with your parents, friends and for emergency’s. Technology is a wonderful and powerful tool but it will never replace face to face interpersonal skills that are needed in our world everyday.

    Answer:
Yes I do agree with this quote because when having a cell phone you can learn so many different things. Today many of the teenage generation are interested in multimedia. As we all know the teen generation are very connected, very good at multitasking and can optimize and prioritize. All of these skills are very good at a boss’s point of view. Using all of these skills these teens their social skills have strengthened. The disadvantages that many teenagers have become serial time wasters and have poor face to face interpersonal skills. Some surveys have brought up were that young workers spend more time than older workers socializing. About 53% of those under the age 24 say socializing is the primary time wasting activity while at work, compared to 34% of those between the ages of 41 and 65. Nucleus research found out that almost 2/3rd s of those with a Facebook account access them at there work place. Because of this new generation things in the work place have changed a lot. E.g. before in the work place there were strict rules that you can not make non related business calls. If you did you would be at a high risk of being fired. But know things have changed they do not care what you do as long as you hand in your deadlines on time. These are the reasons why I agree with the quote.

    Answer:
I agree that this generation has a gift for multi-tasking because they have integrated technology into their lives. I believe that being able to do homework, text friends and chat on facebook all at the same time teaches them to work with distractions. In the future this will enable them to be more successful in the work force because they will be able to work efficiently with distractions. I disagree that this generation’s social skills are lacking because of the many social networking sites, i.e. Facebook and Myspace. Social networking sites allow them to stay in touch with friends much like our parents’ generation who spent many hours on the phone with their friends. Texting is another way that allows teens to stay in touch with both their friends and their parents. I believe that by using computer programs like Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint for school assignments this generation will be ready for the workforce. Once again I believe that technology will benefit this generation.

Answer: I agree that this generation is becoming socially obsessed with texting. Not only do cell phones prevent students from completing homework, but also distract them from using correct vocabulary and encourage wasted time. When not used properly, cell phones can also lead to accidents and false deaths if used in vehicles while driving.
Cell phones can become a distraction while working on homework or driving. You are tempted to check your text messages and lose focus of work or in case of driving, the wheel. This can cause major accidents that can lead to death. Cell phones also promote false vocabulary such as “u, lol, r” and so forth. After a while, you become so familiar with these slangs that you forget how to spell correctly. I believe that cell phones are a privilege and encourage you to waste time. Instead of having a face-to-face conversation, cell phones introduce you to texting and lower your social skills and/or bond with that person.
For these reasons, I strongly believe that cell phones are not only a privilege but also a major advantage in a teenager’s life.

    1. Do you agree or disagree with the following quote? Why or why not?
"Some argue they can accomplish a great deal: This generation has a gift for multitasking, and because they've integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well. Other contend that these hyper-socialized are serial time-wasters, that the bonds between them are shallow, and that their face-to-face interpersonal skills are poor."

I strongly agree that “This generation has a gift for multitasking, and because they’ve integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well.” One of the main reasons why I firmly agree with this quote is because I do believe that this generation has a gift for multitasking. I think this because people can be having multiple conversations at once and still successfully complete a task such as homework. I consider myself to be a prime example. While I do my homework, I am usually on Facebook or texting, having multiple conversations. Not only do I always complete my homework on time, it is also to the best of my ability. This clearly shows that technology and social networking allows us to be outstanding multitaskers.

A second reason why I definitely agree with this quote is because I think with all the technology and social networking; it will serve the generation extremely well. Since we are always “connected” this allows people to be constantly socializing. Between texting, MSN, BBM, and Facebook, simultaneous conversations are always taking place. This can increase the social level of young adults. As well, it also gives them opportunities to meet and interact with new people, which will obviously serve them well in the future. People can meet new people on websites such as Omegle and Facebook.

The final reason why I undeniably agree with this quote is because I am positive that since this generation has integrated technology into their everyday lives, it will bring excellent attributes to the workplace and to there employers. I believe this because due to the fact that people have so many acquaintances from online connections, that these relationships could be useful. Another reason why this generation will be an amazing aspect of the workplace is mainly because of their experience socializing and interacting with others. I also agree with Ben Bajarin, who says “They know how to optimize and prioritize. They will call and set up a meeting, if it’s needed. If not, they text.” These are the many ways that technology and social networking will help this generation in the workplace.

I absolutely agree that “This generation has a gift for multitasking, and because they’ve integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well.” Technology and social networking will certainly bring benefits in the future.

Others contend that these hyper-socialized are serial time-wasters, that the bonds between them are shallow, and that their face-to-face interpersonal skills are poor."
    Answer:
I absolutely agree with the second part of the quote “...Others contend that these hyper-socialized are serial time-wasters, that the bonds between them are shallow, and that their face-to-face interpersonal skills are poor." Each day the constant use of cell phones negatively affects people, especially teenagers. First, when teen’s text their need for speed affects their language skills and formal writing ability. Acronyms that are frequently used when texting start to be used in everyday speech and writing. Additionally, the health of the user can take a toll too because the radiation waves that come off cell phones can cause cancer and if you look at the screen to long your eyesight can suffer. Finally, some teachers worry that students may be cheating on tests. These silent devices can be easily hidden and more and more students are taking the easy way out and instead of studying they simply ask their friends during the test. In conclusion, I strongly agree with everything the second part of the quote says as well as the other negative effects of cell phones.

    Answer:

I believe that now a days, people's social skills have gone down. I think this because, the technology now is very high-tech and you can do so many more things on your phone. A lot of people have phones now and basically instead of talking face-to-face with them you text, email,or call them. I cam relate to this because this is what I do with all my friends and family.

Even though people talk on their phones, they still are communicating with one an other. So therefore yes I do think that people's social skills have gone down from face-to-face,but people are still keeping in touch with their cellular devices.

Why or why not? “Some argue that can accomplish a great deal: This generation has a gift for a multitasking, and because they’ve integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well. I strongly believe that “This generation has a gift for a multitasking, and because they’ve integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well.” I know that this generation has a gift for multitasking. For example, someone can be doing numerous things at once, like going on Facebook, Twitter, MSN, BBM, texting ,all of these ideas that most people in this generation do in their everyday lives. This generation is continuously being “connected” to social networking and technology and these are valuable skills to have when you are older. It will give help you interact with other and meet new people.

Another reason why I agree with this quote is because from my experience this year, we have integrated technology into our work skills. We use the smart board, projector, and the blog. This generation can’t go long without using technology; it is a necessity to us.

One further reason why I believe this generation has the gift of multitasking is because it will bring great experience to the employer because from being “connected” majority of the time you will have a well trained experience will interacting with people. With the amount of contacts you have from all the social networking sites, it could be a useful tool to you one day. This generation has the gift employers crave, so hopefully we will bring great things in the future. These are premium reasons why this generation will bring the right trait of multitasking to the workforce.

I certainly believe that “This generation has a gift for a multitasking, and because they’ve integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well.” These are my reasons why this generation will bring great hopes in the future to come.

    1. Do you agree or disagree with the following quote? Why or why not? “Some argue that can accomplish a great deal: This generation has a gift for a multitasking, and because they’ve integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well. I agree that the new generation is very technologically involved, they have an amazing skill for multitasking. However there is a tendency to not be able to focus on one task at a time and complete it successfully. (texting in class while a lecture is being taught)
Another point I agree with is that our Face-To-Face skills are declining rapidly. This is because more and more people communicate over social media sites (facebook, twitter,Myspace)so even though we might be more connected than ever the quality of our interactions is declining. Most of the stuff people talk about superficial and lack depth. Because of our heavy reliance on technology we have lost the ability to develop meaningful conversations. Also these social-media sites cause people to slack off and in some cases become obese. Also sites such as Facebook record everything you type in on that site into a giant chat log. This can be pulled out by employers and researched carefully. Just another point why you should be careful. Facebook also makes you lose the ability to edit what you are about to say. While on facebook it is more spontaneous and you barely edit what you are saying. Also these sites tear away at your grammer skills. (Lol,G2G,PoS, Rofl NoobWaffelCopter)There is also a problem that you are more easily taken out of context when you wright on facebook instead of verbally communicating. Last Point is that sites like Facebook can often offer subliminal messaging to get you to buy a product. Even though the modern age has made us more technologically comfortable, our dependence on them has reduced our social skills and our proficiency in English.

  14. I disagree with this quote “Some argue they can accomplish a great deal: This generation has a gift for multitasking, and because they've integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well. Other contend that these hyper-socialized are serial time-wasters, that the bonds between them are shallow, and that their face-to-face interpersonal skills are poor.” because people are becoming slaves to technology cause people now are only playing games on their computers, doing work (such as writing assessments), people are starting to become less social and people are starting to get lower marks in but are complaining about their low grades but they are not paying attention in class.
The reason why is because this generation has created technology which now people are starting to become to reliable on technology and are starting less interactive with other people outside. People are becoming couch potatoes and starting to not go outside for their physical education. The schoolwork is starting to become incomplete due to electronics but back in my mom’s days there were no electronics like the cell phones and that generation has accomplished a lot. But this generation is getting lower marks and becoming less social face to face like back in the old days. So I disagree with this quote.

  15. Which side do you agree with and why?

    Answer

I agree with the part of the quote that says: "Some argue they can accomplish a great deal: This generation has a gift for multitasking, and because they've integrated technology into their lives, their ability to remain connected to each other will serve them and their employers well.” The article says that young people can sum up long conversations in one text message. I think that in the workplace, this quality will be very beneficial because they will be able to receive and send information quickly. Ms. Gallagher also says that problems in the workplace result from lack of communications. With technology, employees can talk to each other in an instant. This would only serve to increase their efficiency and eliminate these problems. In conclusion, I agree with the side that says that this generation has a gift for multitasking. I think that using technology in the work place is beneficial and the new generation’s ability to use technology with easy will help them later on.

    I agree with this statement.

This generation, people can do different tasks at the same time with the help of integrated technology in their lives. They can still stay connected through email, MSN, facebook, text messaging, twitter, webcam, etc. The important message or information would be received immediately.

I disagree with the latter part of the quote. You can use MSN and Skype with webcam to communicate with friends, colleagues and employers. It’s almost as close as being in person because you can see and hear each other while doing your work. It is actually more efficient. If you need help or if you don’t understand certain things, you can ask them directly while finishing other work.

Do you agree or disagree with the following quote? Why or why not?

I believe that this that this quote is only partially true on both sides of the argument. It is true that our generation has been given a gift of multi-tasking but that does not change the fact that we really have lost a good amount of our face to face skills. While we are on the computer or in some people’s cases on their cell phones they might use language like “omg” or “lol” eventually people get very used to writing that I (in my own personal experience) have even heard people SAYING it in their every day speech. Our generation has been given the gift of technology. This gift has given use chances and abilities that previous generations have not had. However that does not mean we should abuse it as we sometimes do.
